The sibling cometh

Today I woke up at 5:30. During term time, this is normal getting up time. During the holidays, this hurts my brain and my spatial awareness. I was up at this monstrous hour to go and collect my little sister L from the airport. she's now snoozing having crashed from the jetlag, so I am doing a cheeky update.

First off, it is wonderful to see her. She's loud, makes up words and talks absolute nonsense but she's also very funny and I've missed her like crazy. Having come from the frigid northern hemisphere she had not been able to prepare for the conditions here so some shopping was in order, and as I'd just got paid it seemed unfair not to join in.

Things I have learned from today:
1. Theobroma is not a good place for a mid-morning coffee, as it inevitably leads to overpriced chocolate and feeling a bit sick afterwards. Stick to normal coffee emporia in future.
2. Japanese food continues to be wonderful. Tofu donburi FTW!
3. Farmer's sizing policy makes me feel very svelte. They continue to tell my backside it is a size 12, and my ego loves them as a result. Bought a gorgeous red and black above the knee skirt which makes my legs actually look decent!
4. If you don't like jandal-style sandals in NZ you are SCREWED if you want cheap sandals for kicking about at the beach (poor thing)
5. Roller derby makes you look at all clothes through a "Could I wear that to practice?" filter. The answer, dear brain, is usually NO. apart from that one t-shirt, when is it YES.

It's been a successful morning in all. Lots of catching up with L, confusing shop assistants with our various accents, trying on stuff and buying presents for family back home.

Speaking of which, the parents have gifted me an iPod touch which L brought with her, and I am spending my time blogging and trying to make it go. I think it is laughing at me...
