I weighed myself today. I appreciate that this may sound minor, but to me this is important. I discovered years ago that owning scales makes me a basket case. As someone who's pretty competitive, I become a bit obsessive and something of a basket case when confronted with the normal fluctuations that come with being an eating, breathing human being. SO. No scales, no weekly weigh-in, just jump on the scales every six months or so at the gym and check my body fat percentage using their space-age scale-o-matic whatever.
Today was that day.
I last weighed myself about a week before I started derby training. I weighed in at just over 83kg and had a body fat % of 40. (actually, I lie. I jumped on the scales at a friends' house at Christmas, and weighed 85kg) I weighed myself this morning, aaand....
Just under 83kg. Whut? I was confused, maybe slightly disappointed. 500g in six months is hardly impressive (unless those scales were accurate, then I lost 2.5kg after putting on 2). So, dare I look at my body fat percentage?
34.8%. I lost over 5% of my body fat since July.
That's pretty damn cool if you ask me. If I've lost 5% of my fat, but my weight is the same, then that is a hell of a lot of muscle I've put on! It makes you think a bit more about BMI, given mine has remained at 28 since July but obviously there's been a change for the better physiologically. Just got to keep plugging at it now, it's nice to get some numbers to back up the feeling of making progress....
