Birthday musings...

So, I am 28. That's practically 30. Argh. Still, today has been A Good Day so far. Mascara Massacre had team training, and it was really good to work together and talk strategy before our next game in four weeks time. I've had two big cups of gorgeous, real coffee (birthday present to myself? A coffee plunger and some Blue Mountain), some hot cross buns for breakfast and some peanut butter on toast for lunch (the equivalent of 91 fuel as far as my body is concerned).

I got one of the girls at training to take this for me, I like a picture on my birthday so I can mark the INEVITABLE PASSING OF TIME in a visual way. So here it is.

So yeah, that's me now. I also got the usual birthday messages from various web fora that I've been a member of at one time or another, including one from minimins, a weight loss support forum I joined back in 2007 when I was a Very Big Girl. I decided to drop in on the place and post up how I'd been doing in the last few years. I originally joined when I was on the Lighter Life diet, but quit the site when my former partner and I split and I decided to focus on just eating healthy and exercising. It was extremely supportive and friendly, and I can recommend it if you were looking for such a community. However, when I was writing the post I wanted a before pic and I found this, from NYE 2006-2007....

Woah.Talk about the jolly fat person. 

So, anyhoo, enough of pudginess past.. I like to buy myself a little birthday present every year (who doesn't), and this year I have ordered my Mascara Massacre team shirt (no peeking at that until the bout, sorry) and a pair of bootay shorts from Derriere Designs, a small Kiwi company looking to clad the bottoms of Kiwi derby girls, burlesque dancers and general hotpant fans in an array of exciting colours and fabrics! I won't get them until the start of May, but given that my subheading on this blog is "One woman's mission to look good in Derby Skinz" ordering these feels like a somewhat momentous moment in the Backside of Bruja. Pics of course once they turn up. (in black and purple snakeskin, cause I'm classy like that)

I've also got my Gumball toe stops on order from One Woman 8 Wheels, and am considering splurging with splurginess on something else from there, because I'm an adult and it's my birthday so ner. 

Have so far managed to stay off the birthday cake, but I think I may have a lazy bath and some Sauvignon Blanc because it's three in the afternoon....
